From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
Cancer just isn't funny, especially when it is YOUR cancer. But recently, a young and upcoming stand-up comedian told her audience about her tumors. They turned out to be very supportive!

Tig Notaro Does Stand Up to Breast Cancer
Tig Notaro does podcasts, TV, and stand-up. She's had a sad list of health issues lately, and instead of faking a cheerful attitude, she just told her fans about being diagnosed with breast cancer. They laughed, cried, and stood up to applaud her. I'll bet she will have plenty more material about cancer during the coming year.

Don't Skip Breast Screenings
Women need to know what the official guidelines are for breast screening. Tig Notaro felt a lump one year before having her first mammogram. She delayed the exam, but I sure wish she had taken time for it. Make sure you stay current on breast screenings.

Breast Cancer and Young Women's Concerns
I wish that being young or pregnant were a guarantee that you couldn't get breast cancer. But about 30% of all new cases in 2010 were premenopausal women. These are gals that are starting families, building careers, and finding their place in relationships. Like Tig, they have lots to juggle after a diagnosis.

Where Have All My Friends Gone?
Most people are afraid of cancer, even if it's not their own cancer - they just don't know how to be supportive or how to cope. Other people may surprise you by offering practical help. Be ready to handle changes in your social support system.
