Tiffany is a survivor of triple positive, stage IIa breast cancer. She was previously a published writer but found that words lost meaning after cancer treatment. Expressing herself in words just didn't make sense anymore so she shifted to visual work. Tiffany focused on photography projects for several years before moving into painting, which she has been doing for more than 6 years now. Working primarily with gouache on paper, painting self portraits nude from the waist up has been crucial to rebuilding her sense of self. -- This painting is titled "Self Portrait with Marriage Necklace". It is based on an experience in an infrared sauna where her consciousness was taken to another dimension: a place free of trauma to her body and psyche, where she is gloriously and beautifully healed, where she is reconnected to her heart and the world around her. The "Marriage Necklace", which is displayed in the Jewelry: The Body Transformed exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, serves as a symbol of protection, celebration, and hope. It symbolizes a sense of feeling centered, especially for the body part most impacted by treatment. -- Tiffany lives in Brooklyn, NY. She has lymphedema in her right arm which during quarantine she is controlling with a pump and custom compression garments.
