AMA Declares Gun Violence a 'Public Health Crisis'
CNBC—On the heels of America's deadliest mass shooting in Florida over the weekend, the American Medical Association has voted to declare gun violence a "public health crisis." With more than 200,000 members, constituting the largest physicians' association in the U.S., the AMA said that the appalling number of gun-related deaths in the U.S.

15 Minutes of Exercise a Day Lowers Death Risk by 22 Percent
ScienceDaily—New research indicates that just 15 minutes of daily exercise might be a perfectly reasonable target for older adults to aim for. In fact, data recently presented at a European Society of Cardiology meeting in France found that 15 minutes of exercise per day is associated with a 22 percent lower risk of death, compared to older adults who were inactive.

BBC—A new report finds that more than 40 percent of countries around the world are seeing "very serious levels" of both malnutrition and obesity. And, the report notes, hundreds of millions of people who are undernourished because they are overweight also have unhealthy levels of sugar, salt or cholesterol in their blood.

Gel Insoles May Be Worth a Try for Knee Pain
Health After 50—Q. I have knee osteoarthritis. Are shock-absorbing gel insoles effective in reducing pain? A. Perhaps. A small Canadian study published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2012 examined the efficacy of shock-absorbing gel insoles in shoes. The findings suggest that wearing those insoles can indeed help reduce knee osteoarthritis pain and improve physical function as well.
