From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
When you're in treatment, it may feel like side effects are your enemy, instead of the cancer. Fatigue works against you - but you can strike back.

Fight Fatigue With Aerobic Exercise
You can't banish cancer-related fatigue with more and better sleeping techniques. And don't stock up on energy drinks. Instead, move yourself more - a new study talks about the benefits of exercise during cancer treatment.

Breast Cancer-Related Fatigue
Cancer-related fatigue is more than just being tired; it's an extreme sensation of exhaustion and weakness, and it lingers even with appropriate amounts of sleep. If you experience such fatigue, remember that you're not alone and that it's a real and frustrating aspect of cancer and treatment.

Depression Sometimes Accompanies Fatigue
Physical fatigue is one thing, emotional fatigue is another. Being diagnosed with cancer can be overwhelming, as can deciding on a treatment plan and dealing with all the curve balls that life throws at you. If depression sneaks up on you, get help.

Emotions and Breast Cancer: Expressing, Coping, Surviving
I've known a lot of very strong women who were in treatment for breast cancer. They chose to project strength, to maintain a positive attitude, and to plan on surviving the disease. But they still had the normal emotions that come with a diagnosis. Talk it out, let yourself feel those emotions, don't drown in the energy that it takes to suppress your feelings.

Dear Friends of the NLN,

Every night is the same routine for David. Two years ago, this nightly regimen was
foreign to him, but now it's become second nature. After carefully bandaging his
toes, he slips on a stockinette and finishes wrapping up the rest of his leg. David
used to feel trapped by his routine, but now it allows him to do the things he enjoys,
like hiking in the state park, playing with his grandchildren, living his life.
As he wraps every night, he thinks of all the support that helped him reach this
point - his family, his friends, his therapist, his doctor, and the National Lymphedema
Network.

Lymphedema is a community, and the NLN is here to ensure that patients like David
get the support they need and deserve. Please consider making an End of the Year
contribution to the NLN.

WRAPPING IT ALL TOGETHER

For over 24 years, the NLN has been dedicated to spreading awareness of lymphedema
and supporting the availability of quality medical treatment. Through our consistent
work, we have played a role in the many milestones in lymphedema care. Today we
are able to detect lymphedema in its early stages, and treat patients from all walks
of life. Even further, treatment techniques are becoming more sophisticated due
to increased clinical and diagnostic research. Due in part to our efforts, overall
interest in lymphedema has grown significantly in the medical and research community.

EXTENDING OUR REACH

This year, at our 10th International Lymphedema Conference, the NLN brought together
leading scientists and therapists, and delivered cutting edge research on LE and
related disorders. Therapists and doctors who attended are able to take this new
information and apply it directly in their clinical practice. From spreading awareness
of lymphedema to educating the medical community, the NLN works tirelessly to ensure
that LE educational information can be found nationwide.

SHAPING TREATMENT

The NLN is at the forefront of lymphedema treatment, promoting and advocating for
new research, and setting guidelines for appropriate care. This year, the NLN played
a pivotal role in screening and early detection of BCRL ("Screening and Early Detection
for BCRL: The Imperative" Position Paper, Feb 2012). There is now evidence that
we can identify lymphedema before it is visible, and with immediate treatment, slow
its onset.1 We are well on our way to making early detection standard practice nationwide.

UNDERNEATH IT ALL

The NLN is all about our patients. Through our many services, we continue to help
patients find the appropriate information and care they need. The NLN, with the
generous support from our industry partners, continues to help many indigent patients
through the Marilyn Westbrook Garment Fund (MWGF).

Throughout our long history, we remain dedicated to this community and our patients.
As we continue to provide the services and support so many people need, we rely
on you, our loyal friends, to help us continue our work. Alone we are merely individuals,
but together we can make a difference. Please consider making a contribution as
we approach the end of a successful year, and help us start off 2013 stronger than
ever.

The NLN is a non-profit organization and your donations are tax deductible (Fed
Tax ID: 94-3068338).

We are grateful for your continued support. Let's Wrap Together to shape a better
future for all lymphedema patients. Donate Today! [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001-l6KfdzX4I5wf8FSjQ_rdt2lwmR8SnnQxGoKgcAzT5ASibdIMJ2JqNanU0sCxgC0ka7C_STrLIgjra0ycov3lkZ6HyJL24diCmw1SGm0Aitu41MTdRk8VZsDe0HaiWqk1QtGIOzS_SQ=]
