From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
My sister is an "early adopter" when it comes to new gadgets. She and I used to play with Barbies, but now we chat over our iPads and text between our smartphones. That's fun, but there is an educational side to all that technology, and it includes breast health apps.

Apps to Teach and Remind You About Breast Self-Exams
Aren't sure you remember how to do your monthly breast self exam? Well, I tried 7 free apps that teach you, remind out, educate you, and entertain you. Pretty good for free stuff, I'd say. Find one that's right for you, or tell me about a health app that you really like.

How To Do a Breast Self Exam (BSE)
Here are 6 simple steps and some tips to make doing your breast exam a cinch. It's good to be regular about your BSE, so you will know which changes are cyclical and which are unusual. Doing your BSE is a proactive way to monitor your breast health.

Having a Clinical Breast Exam
Your family doctor or ob/gyn can do a clinical breast exam for you. This is a good time to ask about changes in your breasts and to discuss screening methods to find out what's going on in your breast tissue. And, if you're unsure of just exactly how to do your own breast exam - ask your doctor for help.

The Ins and Outs of Nipple Changes
Nipple are pretty sensitive, and when you get infections, bruises, or plugged pores, they can really hurt! When you do your BSE, don't skip your nipples. They are very important to your milk system and your breast health. Know what changes to keep an eye on.

About Breast Cancer: Modest Green Garnish Helps Fight Breast Cancer

From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
What's green, fluffy, crunchy, and beats up on cancer cells? Hint: you see this a lot as a garnish, dried or fresh. But it turns out to be more than just a gourmet decoration.

Celery and Parsley Help Fight Breast Cancer
Celery is one of those veggies that we used to fill with pimento cheese and serve as an appetizer, or chop up with potato salad. Parsley goes great as a garnish and in tabbouleh. Both these plants contain a flavonoid that, in lab studies, causes breast cancer cells to shrink and die. Hooray for celery! Will it be the alternative to chemo, in the future?

Herbs and Spices Pack Flavor...and Health Benefits
My backyard garden is starting to flourish this week. Tomatoes, squash and okra are blooming and producing. One entire bed is devoted to herbs - and we love to use them fresh! Here are many good reasons to include anti-cancer herbs and spices in your daily diet.

Pomegranates For Good Health
My husband's grandmother had a beautiful pomegranate bush, and now we have one, too! Pomegranates are a very healthy fruit that appears to slow down the growth of estrogen-fueled breast cancers. Their juice is as beautiful as a good wine, and their seeds can be used in salads, or dried and eaten as snacks.

Throw Tomatoes at Your Cancer
Spring and summertime bring us fresh (not hothouse) tomatoes, loaded with flavor and lycopene. Eat these beauties raw, grilled, baked, stuffed, or sauced. They are loaded with healthy antioxidants, and yes - they fight cancer! Try a new variety of tomato this year and see how romantic these love apples can be.

From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
Instead of showering your breast with radiation from outside, it may be possible to put the treatment right where its needed: inside your breast. But it has to be done safely.

Customized Device Provides Safe Breast Radiation From Within
Breast brachytherapy has always made sense to me - just radiate the least amount of me that actually needs treatment and leave the rest of me alone! But there are several ways to do this, and some work better than others. Here's some news about a 4-year study, and I'm happy to say that the news is good.

All About Breast Brachytherapy
Breasts and tumors come in all sizes and shapes, and tumors sometimes grow in odd places. If a tumor is small enough to remove with a lumpectomy, then less follow-up treatment may be needed. How about only 5 days of treatment - does that sound good?

Not All Breast Radiation Is Created Equal
Breast radiation is done to prevent recurrence or control the spread of malignant cells. There's more than one method available to zap the cancer - from outside as well as inside. Take a short tour of the techniques used to bust up your cancer's DNA.

Newly Diagnosed - What You Need to Know Before Starting Treatment
You've gotten your initial diagnosis of breast cancer, but don't know much about what to expect. Here is a roadmap for newly diagnosed patients; full of information about diagnosis, tests, emotions, and the many options you may be offered for surgery and treatment. Educating yourself will help you travel this difficult road with confidence.
