About Breast Cancer: PARP Inhibitor Iniparib Shows Promise For TNBC

From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
Most cases of breast cancer are fueled by estrogen - so most treatments are geared to treat ER+ disease. But for the 15-20% of cases that don't respond to estrogen-suppressing therapy, there is new hope in the form of PARP inhibitors.

Iniparib Shows Promise For Triple Negative Breast Cancer
When cancer cells don't get damaged by chemo, they repair themselves. To do this, they use the PARP protein to fix their compromised DNA. A new drug for Triple Negative Breast Cancer takes advantage of this repair mechanism by blocking PARP receptors. Learn more about the clinical trial using Iniparib here.

Why doesn't my clinic do my blood draw through a port?
During chemotherapy, I got good and sick of needles. There were needles for shots, needles for tests, and needles for chemo infusions. I had a port for the chemo infusions, but my clinic didn't use it for those pesky blood draws before each treatment. Now I know why!

When My World Was Very Small - Book Review
Ruth Rakoff was raising 3 young boys, doing volunteer work, and having a good time cooking luscious food for her family. Then a routine mammogram revealed a lump and she was in for a hard ride through breast cancer treatment. From traveling the world to being stuck on the couch, her world seemed very small. But was it, really? Here's my review of Rakoff's memoir.

Micromedex Drug Info - App Review
Here's a free app that works on several devices, and gives you the complete info on about a zillion drugs. Okay, I may be exaggerating a little bit. The reviewer says it is easy to use and very portable.

About Breast Cancer: Apps Offer Mobile Support For Breast Cancer

Daily Life

From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
My sister is the gadget queen in our family. She gets the most good out of any electronic device you've ever seen. Health apps, e-calendars, chat rooms, and games - she can make them fly. Breast cancer? yes, there's apps for that, too!

Breast Cancer Apps Offer Mobile Support For Patients
How about a breast cancer support group that fits in the palm of your hand? That's what many new breast cancer apps aim to become. You can find these apps all over the web, often for a very low fee. Many are helpful, a few are not.
Got an app you like? Send in a review of it, and let's see what works for you.

Bad Hot Flashes - Lower Risk of Breast Cancer
I hate hot flashes, but if it means having a lower risk of breast cancer, then I'll try to endure them with grace. You see, a hot flash is a sign of low estrogen, a hormone that fuels the growth of many breast tumors. Hot flashes happen when I eat spicy food, consume caffeine, go out in hot weather, and write about hot flashes. So enough for now!

Breast Cancer and Young Women's Concerns
There's no good age at which to get breast cancer. But if a young, premenopausal woman is diagnosed with it, her worries will be different than an older woman's concerns. About 30% of all cases found in 2010 were young women. Relationships, dating, pregnancy, childraising, fertility, and body image all heavily impact a young woman. This article covers those topics, and a few more.

Breast Cancer Basics - Definition, Types, Survival Statistics
An introductory guide to breast cancer with articles and resources about the definition, types of breast cancer, symptoms, survival statistics, and more.
